The smallest entity for any smart corridor initiative is an intersection which controls various factors that affect traffic flow, such as wait times, infrastructure capacity, Fuel efficiency, a right of way etcetera. Balancing these factors help make it easier for multiple modes to coexist, convenient infrastructure access, lower commute time and fewer crashes. Smart transportation systems use sensors to detect congestion and bottlenecks in traffic patterns. In doing so, these tools gather real-time traffic information that can be used by state DOTs to make mobility networks safer and more efficient. Among the various Smart corridors across the U.S., the newly inaugurated North Avenue Smart Corridor of Atlanta opens up the opportunities to analyze connected technology on streets and improve Smart asset management. This study aims to identify the Smart Infrastructure needed to support these applications and generate their cost-benefit analysis over specified lifespan for better asset management.

Our report focuses on filling the gap for making a significant leap for transforming the current Smart Cities project to a comprehensive smart cities plan, considering the diverse needs, applications, and solutions tailored for the city of Atlanta by proposing a Smart Assets Management Plan for North Avenue.  The contents include a brief on the convergence of Smart city project to the level of intersection infrastructure management on North Avenue, a glance of existing smart assets deployed in smart corridor projects across the United States, case studies on how other cities installed and managed their Smart Corridor projects, recommended Smart technologies, and a cost and benefit analysis which generates value for smart city planners, technology advisors and key decision makers. The limitations and recommendations provided in this report can serve as the basis for further studies.
